Originally known as "Bone Key" or "Cayo Hueso", Key West was a last stand for the Native American Tribe, Calusa. After several long battles, the name "Bone Key" seemed to manifest itself because of the sun-bleached bones left on the beach. After much of the conflict, Key West was claimed by the Spanish and renamed "West". Later the English forced the remaining Native Americans and Spaniads from the Keys. Much later, the United States laid claim to Key West and set up a base. Today, Key West is known for its tourists and revitalizing atmosphere.
Key West has an impressive selection of restaurants despite its size. Turtle Kraal's Bar and Restaurant, Two Friends Patio Restaurant, Virgilio's Cocktail Lounge, A&B Lobster House, and the list goes on. Come to any part of the island for great seafood and drinks. Party all night and wake up tomorrow to go swimming and do it all over again! Sure, there's plenty to enjoy, but you'll need to get back to Florida eventually, and since that's a pretty long walk, we would highly suggest renting a car for your stay. Don't underestimate the fatigue after a long day in the Ocean and the great feeling of pushing in the gas to roll back to your hotel. Get your cheap car rental today. |
